Fumigants

They are volatile compounds that, when applied to the soil, evaporate and diffuse as gas, penetrating the pores of the soil. They act in a non-specific manner, eliminating nematodes, fungi, soil insects and some weed seeds.

Non-Fumigants

Contact: They remain in the treated area of the soil and are less aggressive than fumigants. Systemic: They are absorbed by the roots and distributed throughout the plant. When they feed on the root, they ingest the active ingredient and die.

Frequently asked questions about agricultural nematicides

What are nematicides used for?

Nematocides are used to control or reduce populations of plant-parasitic nematodes that attack plant roots. The aim of nematicides is not always to eliminate all nematodes, but rather to keep their populations below the economic damage threshold, ensuring healthy plant development.

It should generally be applied before sowing or at the beginning of cultivation, when nematode populations are most accessible in the surface layers of the soil. In the case of fumigants, they are applied prior to sowing, and systemic or biological nematicides are applied in the early stages of development.

Yes, some broad-spectrum chemical nematicides, especially fumigants, can eliminate not only harmful nematodes, but also beneficial nematodes and other soil microorganisms (useful fungi and bacteria). Agrosafor professionals will advise and guide you to ensure that this does not happen.

Yes, but only if the nematicide is authorised for organic use in accordance with Regulation (EU) and is listed in the MAPA’s Register of Plant Protection Products under that condition. Synthetic chemical nematicides and fumigants are not permitted in organic farming. At Agrosafor, we strive to meet your expectations and all the necessary legal requirements.
